The University for Jewish Studies in Heidelberg aims at bringing research on Muslim-Jewish relations to a wide nonacademic audience, both in terms of age groups and religious backgrounds. With its podcast »Mekka and Jerusalem« the radio program aims at addressing the increasing alienation between Jews and Muslims in Germany, driven by Islamophobia, Muslim Antisemitism, and the conflict in the Middle East.
To promote the podcast, i was approached to design a poster-series, which we conceptually based on the fact, that the hebrew and arabic language share words, that are pronounced similar, but written with different alphabets. To overcome their difference in style, I designed a font to bring them together on a visual level. Adding the idea to work with radio waves as a graphic element using shades of green as a color to express the fertility of connection finished the posters.
